Stand Still

Lost
David Wagoneer

Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost.  Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you.
If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows.

I took this photo on my property on Friday. We have been so blessed by this week's weather.

Thank you for the gentle reminders Pam. The poems and quote for the day reenforce my journey through this past year of "slowing down" rather getting lost in "busyness"...my journey, slow and steady, continues=).

This is a wonderful poem about being there in the now. I'm a fan of Waggoner's anyway, and this only reinforces my enjoyment of his poetry. Thanks for this blog, Pam; I always look forward to it.

I've had some followers say they are having difficulty posting comments. I changed it so that when you do make a comment it will take you to a full page instead of a box below the poem.
If you do not have a google account I think you can comment by selecting Name/URL or Anonymous below. Let me know if you want to comment and still aren't able. pamcyphert@yahoo.com

This is nature that demands respect. This is also a beautiful meditation piece.
